A few months ago I bought an Acer One Netbook. (8.9" screen, 1Gb RAM 120Gb HDD) for about $600.

I posted some info on it here on the Forum. A couple of others bought one as well. It's a little ripper.

I see Retravision in WA (not sure about other States) have advertised it today in their Boxing Day sale for $399 after $69 cash back. The HDD is now 160Gb.

I'm not spruiking for Retravision but I know a bargain when I see one.

If you have been trying to make up your mind whether to buy one or not, now's the time.

cheers

Thanks for the heads-up

Going to the Big Smoke tomorrow and need something like a small laptop as my old Notebook passed away a few months ago.

Hullo Willem,

Merry Xmas to you and Judith.

Regarding this little laptop, be aware that it does not have a disc drive. There are ways around that though. It can load info from SD cards and USB thumbdrives, but external DVD burners are real cheap these days. Less than $100, and makes loading info from discs a breeze, and you only have to do that a few times.

Hi to both of ya.

I just gave my old Acer travelMate 280 a Xmas gift

Up graded the ram and HHD from 20 gb to 80 gb and 512mb to 1012mb she's now a killer laptop ..LOL. must have another 5 years in it now. cost $195.00 plus free delivery as I booked that up to work (hope they don't read this). cost more because it was vintage, :-)

Cheers

Ah! yes, Steven

Compliments of the season to you and Mrs Gone Bush

I really only want it for storage of photographs but will most likely load my mapping into it as well.(Run a PDA these days). I like to download the photos every day and name them as when one is away from home for a longer periods, sometimes you forget where a pic was taken.

Next year we will be doing a 3 month stint up in the Northwest of WA

Hi Willem,
I have killed off 3 laptops over the years, mainly during off road trips. It seems that the hard drive is unable to cope with the constant vibrations of gravel/corrugated tracks and become corrupted. I have bought a Toshiba laptop with a SSD drive (solid state drive). No moving parts at all. Had it for about 6 months now and been along a few rough roads. So far so good. Maybe that is the way to go

Thanks George. My Notebook lasted 6 years and many outback trips but once it died that was it! Nevertheless, thank goodness the prices have come down from the $3000 way back in 2002.

The Aldi unit is well made and importantly has a full size keyboard if you are a touch typist.
